[0:00] I am going to start with the Britney
[0:01] news only because it just broke and
[0:05] let's face it, we need a break from
[0:06] Iran. That that's just such a doubt.
[0:08] >> Are you saying these stories are not
[0:09] related on the record the Britney
[0:12] arrest?
[0:13] >> Uh I mean time will tell time, you know,
[0:16] maybe she was really upset with what she
[0:18] saw in Iran, so she she hit the bottle.
[0:21] >> She was listening to you and Glenn
[0:22] yesterday and she was like, I can't take
[0:24] it anymore.
[0:25] >> Yeah. I mean, I got that feedback from a
[0:27] lot of our listeners. They also hit the
[0:29] bottle after listening to this whole
[0:30] thing. Um, I have to say like I think
[0:33] the nation really cares about her. I
[0:35] really do. I think she's more than just
[0:37] a singer, pop icon. She's got 42 million
[0:40] followers on Instagram because we
[0:42] watched her grow up. So, we all feel
[0:44] like we know her. I think a lot of us
[0:46] feel invested in like her wellness care
[0:50] because we saw the uh conservatorship
[0:53] that her dad had control of for so long
[0:55] and she didn't have her freedom and she
[0:57] was micromanaged by you know Hollywood
[0:59] management companies and her dad and
[1:02] like doesn't seem to have gotten the
[1:04] benefit of all of her hard work. Her
[1:05] wealth seemed to have evaporated into
[1:07] the hands of other people and she
[1:09] started when she was 15 or 16. So, we
[1:12] watched that girl with Oops, I Did It
[1:14] Again, turn into this, and I say this
[1:16] lovingly, hot mess who now we see on
[1:19] Instagram with these bizarre dancing
[1:22] videos. We're going to show you one.
[1:24] I've been noticing it myself lately. It
[1:26] pops up in your feed and you can see
[1:28] kind of the deterioration with her. Like
[1:29] sometimes she just does dancing where
[1:31] you're like, "Okay, she's dancing." And
[1:32] sometimes you're like, "Oh, wow. No,
[1:34] something's going wrong there." Deb, do
[1:35] we have one that we're going to show?
[1:37] Let's watch it.
[1:51] She's basically in her underwear or a
[1:54] bikini. She's got the very heavy
[1:56] eyeliner on. She almost looked like she
[1:58] was doing like a maybe a a gun motion
[2:00] underneath the chin. I'm not sure. It's
[2:02] like the finger to the bottom of the
[2:04] chin move. And this is what she does all
[2:06] the time, Emily. She just posts
[2:09] inappropriate videos of herself with
[2:11] weird dancing. It's not even like great
[2:13] Britney Spears dancing that she's
[2:14] capable of. It's like weird herkyjerky
[2:17] movements
[2:18] >> from somebody who looks dra drug to me.
[2:20] She definitely looks like she's on
[2:22] drugs.
[2:23] >> And nobody steps in, you know, like we
[2:24] went from conservatorship, which was too
[2:26] much, to like apparently no help at all,
[2:29] which is evident. And now that this news
[2:32] breaks that she's been arrested for DUI
[2:34] in California, her manager, I guess it
[2:38] is, uh, Kate Hudson, releases the
[2:41] following statement.
[2:43] This was an unfortunate incident that is
[2:45] completely inexcusable. This is a
[2:47] statement obtained by the New York
[2:48] Post's page six. Britney is going to
[2:50] take the right steps and comply with the
[2:52] law, and hopefully this can be the first
[2:54] step in long overdue change that needs
[2:57] to occur in Britney's life. Hopefully
[2:58] she can get the help and support she
[3:00] needs during this difficult time.
[3:02] Unusually good statement for a talent
[3:05] manager. Uh so what do you make of her
[3:07] arrest now for DWI or DUI which is
[3:10] slightly less severe than DWI?
[3:12] >> Well, I was going to say exactly the
[3:13] same thing about that statement. It sort
[3:15] of presents this glass half full
[3:16] perspective on what just happened
[3:18] because as you were pointing out the
[3:20] conservatorship was, you know, to hear
[3:22] Britney Spears put it at this very
[3:24] moving hearing when the conservatorship
[3:26] was on the table. uh she spoke in court
[3:29] about how because of the
[3:30] conservatorship, she had been drugged
[3:32] against her will for many many years.
[3:34] And so when I'm reading between the
[3:36] lines of that statement, I'm thinking,
[3:38] did she, you know, with all of the drugs
[3:40] that she had been given, including
[3:41] lithium, while she was under the
[3:43] conservatorship for many, many years, go
[3:45] from having this cocktail um that was
[3:49] given to her under that legal control to
[3:53] not getting at all uh the right
[3:55] off-ramp, medically, the right off-ramp
[3:57] from many years spent on all of those
[3:59] different drugs. Uh because I agree with
[4:01] you, Megan. She's clearly on something
[4:03] in all of these videos that are posted
[4:05] regularly on her account. They're so
[4:07] uncomfortable. They're so sad. Everybody
[4:09] knows that something's wrong. People
[4:10] genuinely just want this woman to be
[4:12] happy. She is a mother. We all watched
[4:14] her become a mother. We've watched her
[4:16] as a daughter. We've watched her as a
[4:18] sister. Her sister is also her little
[4:20] sister is also very famous. So, it's
[4:22] just I mean, to me, I agree. There's
[4:24] there's clearly in the videos a
[4:26] substance abuse problem that is then
[4:28] being confirmed by the fact that she
[4:30] just got DUI. So I hope that that's what
[4:34] the problem I hope that her her manager
[4:36] here whoever gave the statement is
[4:37] correct that maybe this is the right
[4:38] step to her getting the medication
[4:41] sorted out.
[4:43] >> She um that this via TMZ just now they
[4:46] they write Britney Spears was crying
[4:48] while being booked in jail for alleged
[4:50] driving under the influence. Sources
[4:52] tell TMZ that Britney was very emotional
[4:55] while being processed at the Ventura
[4:57] County Sheriff's Office Wednesday night.
[4:58] We're told she did not act out of the
[5:00] ordinary aside from crying a lot. She's
[5:04] 44. She was arrested in Ventura County,
[5:08] California. Um, she was handcuffed by
[5:11] the California Highway Patrol around
[5:13] 9:30 p.m. last night and she was booked
[5:16] by the Sheriff's Department around 3:00
[5:17] a.m., released from jail this morning at
[5:20] 6:00 a.m. Can't believe she's 44. That's
[5:23] like that's so shocking, right? Like she
[5:25] she's kind of almost forever 16 in my
[5:27] mind. And she's been through a lot. A
[5:33] lot. I mean, the number one thing she's
[5:34] been through is she became a mega star
[5:37] in her teens, which is the absolute last
[5:41] thing you should want for your child.
[5:44] Absolute last. It never ends well. You
[5:48] know, look at Justin Bieber right now.
[5:50] It's like massive fame, massive fame at
[5:53] any age
[5:55] is warping, is I think mentally damaging
[5:59] to somebody. It's why so many mega mega
[6:02] stars turn out very weird like Michael
[6:04] Jackson. But massive fame at a the
[6:07] tender age of a teenager like a Bieber
[6:10] or a Spears is almost guaranteed to
[6:13] seriously f you up. And so like we saw
[6:16] her with the meltdowns with the bald
[6:18] head and the umbrella. Then she married
[6:20] Kevin Federline and that that was a
[6:22] disaster. the the romance with Justin
[6:25] Timberlake and then it came out that he
[6:27] strongarmed her into getting an abortion
[6:29] that she didn't want, which causes
[6:30] lifelong damage for a woman. I mean,
[6:32] that's you just don't overcome that. You
[6:34] don't want an abortion, you get one
[6:35] anyway. Even if you want an abortion,
[6:37] you get one. It can cause lifelong
[6:38] damage as you get older and you realize
[6:40] what you've done. You've killed your own
[6:42] child. Um, and then just the height of
[6:46] the fame, the control of the managers,
[6:48] the father, and so on. Here's Kevin
[6:49] Federline. Just this past October, he
[6:52] was he wrote a tell all book and he went
[6:55] on with Piers Morgan. Listen here.
[6:57] >> I understand that this hurts and the
[6:59] truth hurts and all of that. And that is
[7:02] not what I want. I'm not trying to hurt
[7:04] anybody. I'm trying to put a perspective
[7:07] on it and show people that help is
[7:11] needed now because time is running out.
[7:16] >> And when you say time is running out,
[7:18] what do you mean?
[7:21] I It's exactly what it sounds like. I
[7:24] don't, you know, I don't want my kids
[7:27] waking up having to deal with the
[7:29] unimaginable
[7:32] that their mother might die.
[7:36] >> Yes.
[7:40] >> Yeah. He's the father of her two sons. I
[7:42] think we all have that fear, right? I
[7:44] mean, you can't look at her in those
[7:46] videos and not have that fear. And you
[7:49] mentioned Michael Jackson and I think
[7:50] that's a fear people had with Michael
[7:52] Jackson and other celebrities too who
[7:54] unfortunately their lives ended too soon
[7:56] where you see this playing out in real
[7:58] time. It's obvious. So no surprise that
[8:00] he said that. Your point about the mega
[8:02] fame is so important. I mean she's
[8:05] somebody who was in the literally in the
[8:07] Mickey Mouse Club. Um and that's my this
[8:10] is like smack my generation. I remember
[8:12] buying Oops, I did it again when I was
[8:14] pretty young. and she was put forward in
[8:17] the press as this all-American girl. She
[8:20] ended up really having the worst of both
[8:22] worlds of this like last gasp of
[8:24] celebrity monoculture where there were
[8:26] true mega mega mega celebrities. Uh now
[8:30] there are still very famous people for
[8:31] Gen Z, you know, like Billy Isish. just
[8:33] about everybody knows who Billy Isish
[8:34] is, but there's so much more uh siloed
[8:38] uh culture that she was really like one
[8:41] of the last big big monoculture
[8:44] celebrities who was this multi-
[8:48] multi-million dollar business, dare I
[8:50] say like multi-billion dollar business
[8:52] uh that was around her, the tabloid
[8:54] culture, like you mentioned the age of
[8:56] Perez Hilton blogging where he was, you
[8:59] know, scribbling on the pictures. So
[9:01] she's right at that period and now she's
[9:03] in this period of social media where she
[9:05] ostensibly has control over her accounts
[9:07] which is not something that ever
[9:09] happened in the '9s or the early as you
[9:12] everything was funneled through a team
[9:14] and it is for many celebrities still but
[9:16] clearly not on her Instagram. So she's
[9:17] splitting these two eras in a way that I
[9:20] think is heart-wrenching because she was
[9:22] sold as this all-American girl who was
[9:24] living the dream from Louisiana. So
[9:27] talented gets plucked out of small town
[9:29] Louisiana. uh just a a normal typical
[9:32] American family thrust into mega
[9:34] stardom, very sexualized, and now we're
[9:38] seeing it all up close.
[9:40] >> Think about this. In 2006, $20,000
[9:44] equaled roughly 33 ounces of gold at
[9:48] spot price. Okay, 20,000 bucks got you
[9:51] 33 ounces. At today's prices, those 33
[9:55] ounces would be worth about $165,000.
[9:59] That would have been a very good
[10:00] investment. And that's why so many smart
[10:03] Americans do diversify a portion of
[10:05] their savings into precious metals.
[10:07] They're thinking about what's going to
[10:08] happen in the next 20 years. And it's
[10:10] also why you should consider buying gold
[10:11] from Birch Gold Group. For thousands of
[10:14] years, gold has been a store of wealth.
[10:17] And today, it is a crucial part of any
[10:19] balance strategy. Even better, Birch
[10:21] Gold can help you convert an existing
[10:23] IRA or 401k into a tax sheltered

[10:32] and that will give you a free info kit

[10:42] with the Better Business Bureau and tens
[10:43] of thousands of happy customers, let
[10:45] Birch Gold help you diversify with gold.
[10:48] Now that's peace of mind. Again, text MK
[10:51] to 989898 today. She didn't just rise to
[10:54] fame like a Bieber where that would have
[10:57] been damaging enough, but the young
[10:59] women like Britney, I mean, she was a
[11:01] girl. She was 15 or 16. Um, very
[11:05] hypersexualized. I mean, look at the
[11:06] video for that. Oops, I did it again.
[11:08] >> The baby one more time.
[11:10] >> All middrift.
[11:10] >> Yeah. Where she's in the the school was
[11:12] like, yeah.
[11:14] >> Yes. Yes. Fulfilling like the weird
[11:16] fantasies of god knows how many men
[11:18] staring at this actual like 15 or
[11:21] 16year-old girl. And let's face it, her
[11:23] parents were fine with it. I I realize
[11:26] Britney was probably fine with it, too,
[11:27] but she's the minor. That's why you have
[11:29] parents. Kids make dumbass decisions all
[11:32] the time. Um, you know, I I was thinking
[11:35] about it this winter as we heard these
[11:36] terrible decisions about kids dying
[11:39] because during the terrible snowstorms,
[11:41] they could they tied their sleds up to
[11:44] like a friend's Jeep or a friend's ATV
[11:48] and died. And the K teenagers do dumb
[11:51] things all the time. They don't have a
[11:53] good feel for what's existential. That's
[11:56] why they have parents, you know, who are
[11:58] supposed to step in and watch out for
[12:00] them. And I'm sorry, but Britney
[12:02] Spears's parents, the mother seemed to
[12:04] be enjoying the daughter's fame and
[12:07] fortune. And the father times a
[12:09] thousand, he was like he couldn't keep
[12:12] his hands off of her fortune or her life
[12:14] except to actually parent her, except to
[12:17] actually make sure she didn't have that
[12:19] gaping hole inside of her that made her
[12:21] think wealth and celebrity was going to
[12:24] make her feel whole, right? That was
[12:26] something he seemed to have missed all
[12:28] the way up to when she had the the
[12:30] performance, the residency in Las Vegas.
[12:32] And he seemed to be putting her out
[12:34] there every night, addled and unwell,
[12:37] >> but like sticking the, you know,
[12:39] adrenaline in the horse at the race
[12:41] track, like get out there and
[12:43] run while the checks were cashing. And
[12:45] now now you see her alone. That's one
[12:47] thing you noticed in all these videos,
[12:49] Emily. She's always alone. She looks
[12:51] like no one's tended to her. You know,
[12:53] she kind of looks like a raga muffin, as
[12:54] my mom would call me on the days I
[12:56] didn't brush my hair. And um it it's
[13:00] sad. You know, you you you want somebody
[13:01] to step in. I almost feel like the DUI
[13:03] could be good because
[13:05] >> as the manager put it, like maybe maybe
[13:07] now with the public humiliation that
[13:09] she's clearly
[13:10] >> going to suffer because she knows I mean
[13:12] this was this is the lead on CNN. It was
[13:14] the lead on our show today that you know
[13:17] it if I got a DUI, it would make the
[13:19] news because I'm a public figure, but it
[13:21] wouldn't be the lead on on a bunch of
[13:23] news channels. I mean, that's unique to
[13:25] Britney. And it it might it's a it's a
[13:27] bad thing for her short term, but it
[13:28] might be a good thing for her long term.
[13:29] >> You know what's interesting? I just
[13:31] thought of this. Justin Timberlake is
[13:33] fighting Sag Harbor right now uh so to
[13:35] prevent releases from his own DUI from
[13:38] coming out a couple of years ago. Uh
[13:41] >> that's almost like a a tragic
[13:42] >> and he's another child star.
[13:44] >> Yes. And again, I think Jen Z doesn't
[13:46] understand exactly
[13:48] how that couple affected popular
[13:50] culture. how like massive massive the
[13:53] fact that those two were a couple was
[13:55] for both of their like hashtag brands
[13:57] which wasn't really a thing at the time
[13:58] but that was so so significant and the
[14:02] sexualization of Britney Spears was
[14:03] happening really in tandem with that
[14:05] they were both in the Mickey Mouse Club
[14:07] and they as they grew up it reminds me
[14:09] so much of what you've covered with the
[14:11] uh information we've learned behind the
[14:12] scenes of Nickelodeon about Amanda Bines
[14:15] and Drake Bell uh the things that were
[14:17] happening behind the scenes in the '9s
[14:19] and early as was just utterly
[14:22] disgusting. It was abusive. We should
[14:24] say that it's abusive with Britney
[14:26] Spears. We can see it happening within
[14:28] the last decade. Your point about her
[14:30] dad who is basically treating her as,
[14:31] this is a strong word, a slave making
[14:34] her drugging her, making her go perform,
[14:36] and then taking the money for himself.
[14:38] And this is all within like the last
[14:40] decade. So, it would be in retrospect
[14:42] crazy for us to expect Britney Spears to
[14:44] get out of that conservatorship and just
[14:45] be fine. I haven't seen this woman lucid
[14:48] in probably 20 years. Seriously. And
[14:50] when she was losing, you see how sweet
[14:52] she was. The fact that she was crying at
[14:54] the police station just cut so deep
[14:57] because she she's always
[14:58] >> I know. It makes me want to swoop in
[15:00] there and help her personally. Like I I
[15:02] I I think she should come live with my
[15:04] family and me for like 6 months. I feel
[15:06] like we could really help her. I love
[15:07] that. I feel like you she needs like
[15:10] strong positive influences in her life
[15:13] and something other than drugs to fill
[15:15] her up and stupid provocative Instagram
[15:19] videos and clicks or likes to fill her
[15:22] up. The um you mentioned the Nickelodeon
[15:25] thing. So yes, that what that what
[15:27] Nickelodeon has done to a generation of
[15:29] child stars is absolutely disgusting and
[15:31] filthy and we've covered it a lot on the
[15:33] show as you point out.
