Y2Sum Studio ("we", "our", or "us") is an AI-powered YouTube video summarizer and learning platform. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use our website at www.y2sum.ai or our iOS mobile app.

2. Information We Collect

Depending on how you use Y2Sum, we may collect the following:

  • Account information — when you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from your identity provider.
  • YouTube URLs you submit for summarization.
  • Content you create — notes, collections, and annotations you save within the app.
  • Subscription and billing data — your subscription tier and status, managed via Stripe (web) or Apple In-App Purchase (iOS). We do not store full payment card details.
  • Email preferences — whether you have opted in to digest emails, and your unsubscribe token.
  • Usage and analytics data — pages visited, features used, device type, and approximate location, collected via Google Analytics.
  • IP address — used for rate limiting and abuse prevention. Not linked to your account.
  • Crash and error reports — collected automatically via Sentry when the app encounters an error.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide and improve the summarization service.
  • To authenticate you and manage your account and subscription.
  • To send transactional emails (digest emails, subscription confirmations) if you have opted in.
  • To enforce rate limits and prevent abuse.
  • To diagnose errors and improve app stability via crash reporting.
  • To understand aggregate usage patterns via analytics.

4. Cookies and Consent

We use cookies and similar technologies for:

  • Session management — to keep you logged in across pages.
  • Analytics — via Google Analytics 4, loaded only after you accept cookies via our consent banner.

You can change your consent choice at any time by clearing your browser's local storage. You can also control cookies through your browser settings.

5. Third-Party Services

Y2Sum Studio relies on the following third-party services, each with their own privacy practices:

  • Google Sign-In / Apple Sign-In — identity and authentication
  • Google Gemini API — AI summarization
  • YouTube Data API — video metadata and transcript retrieval
  • Supabase (PostgreSQL) — database storage for summaries, accounts, and preferences
  • Stripe — subscription billing for web users
  • Apple In-App Purchase — subscription billing for iOS users
  • Resend — transactional email delivery
  • Firebase Cloud Messaging — push notifications
  • Sentry — error and crash reporting
  • Google Analytics 4 — usage analytics (consent-gated)
  • Railway.app — web hosting and infrastructure

6. Data Retention

  • Video summaries are stored indefinitely to avoid re-generating them. They contain only the YouTube video ID and generated content — no personal data.
  • Account data is retained as long as your account is active. You may request deletion at any time (see section 8).
  • IP-based rate limit records are stored by calendar day and automatically expire.
  • Email digests are sent only to opted-in users and include a one-click unsubscribe link in every email.

7. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with the third-party services listed in section 5, to the extent necessary to operate the service. We do not share your data for advertising purposes beyond what Google Analytics may process under its own terms.

8. Your Rights and Account Deletion

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time by contacting us at privacy@y2sum.ai. Account deletion is also available directly within the iOS app via Profile. Deleting your account cancels your subscription, anonymizes your personal data, and removes your content.

9. Children's Privacy

Y2Sum Studio is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
